Harborlight is committed to the tenet in its Mission Statement that speaks to compassion and humanitarianism by providing multiple opportunities throughout the year for students, faculty and staff to actively participate in a well established Community Service Program. Through contributions of time, talent and treasure, students comprehend the value of helping others on multiple levels and experience the personal empowerment and satisfaction that comes with making a difference in the world.
Projects within the Community Service Program address issues related to the environment, homelessness, hunger, disease, literacy, as well as support local, national and international causes and charities. From children in Central Asia to seniors at Essex Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center next door, Harborlight reaches out to communities in need with compassion and respect.

On Friday, May 14th and May 21st from 3 to 5 pm, Harborlight “Girl Power” Yoga Club is hosting a “pre-owned” bike collection for TriROK (Tri Racing for Our Kids Foundation). TriROK’s mission is to defeat childhood obesity and get families healthy through the sports of swimming, biking and running. All donated bikes will be refurbished and distributed to children and families in support of advancing a healthy, active lifestyle and reducing childhood obesity. TriROK programs operate on the principle that the most effective way to get and keep children healthy is to help their parents become active, fit role models themselves. The TriROK Foundation has made it their work to ensure that families receive the tools, training, and support they need to establish a lifetime of healthy living for all of their members. For more information on the TriROK Foundation or the bike collection, please contact Zoe Kessler (“Girl Power” instructor & Harborlight parent) at zbalomenos1@aol.com.
Thank you to all who helped make this year's Empty Bowl a huge success - from our talented K-8 potters, soup makers of all ages, to local artists and food purveyors. It was a wonderful community effort that reaped big rewards - for our neighbors in need.
